Hi! I am Srini Shankar, a sculptor by passion and a small cog in the fashion industry by profession.
I have had no formal training in the arts. Hailing from Kerala, where every profession except medicine or engineering is frowned upon, a career in the arts was completely unthinkable.
It was my dog Siddharth who bought the whole animal world along with him into my life. He was my first pet and the fulfilment of a dream for my wife, who loves dogs. He ruled our hearts from the first moment that we laid eyes on him.
We spent eight happy years together. He passed away in 2018, leaving a gaping hole in our hearts. My first pet sculpture was an effort to commemorate him in clay, so as to not have to rely solely on memories, which fade away with age.
I did a few pet commissions at first - only for my friends- and their enthusiastic response encouraged me to delve deeper into my passion.
As a child, I always used to be awestruck by the elegant stature & composure of elephants. My first attempt at wild animal sculpting was an attempt to depict the spirit and ethos of these magnificent creatures.
Since then, I have tried to capture the best moments of many wild animals. Each of my works is the result of a magical levitation to their natural living environment. My animal sculptures are a hallmark of my strong conviction to support & protect these beauties. They are so less in number around us, I sincerely hope my works will inspire people to take more efforts towards conservation of the wild.
